Full removal
One to two hours, depending on the method and how much hair is in. Rows are unpicked, beads or bonds released, and everything comes out section by section rather than being worked at in a hurry.
Please do not do this at home. That is the single most useful sentence on this page. Removal done with the wrong tool, or done impatiently, is where hair actually gets lost, and it is a much shorter appointment than the one that follows a home attempt.
Your own hair will look different underneath and that is expected. Hair that has been under rows for months has not been brushed or styled at the roots, and there will be shed hair caught in there that would ordinarily have come out on a brush over that time. It looks alarming for about twenty minutes. It gets washed and blown out before you leave.
Removal and same-day reinstall
The appointment for a set that has come to the end of its life. Everything comes out, the hair and scalp get properly seen and washed, and a new set goes in the same day. Three and a half to five and a half hours, so it is most of a day and it is booked as such.
It is also the appointment for someone arriving from somewhere else. If you are wearing hair you are unhappy with, this is the route that does not involve going about your life in between. What is achievable in one sitting depends on what is currently in and what condition your own hair is in underneath, so it is assessed first rather than promised.
No comment is required about who fitted the previous set and none will be invited. It is not relevant to the work.
If you are taking a break rather than stopping
Plenty of people come out for a summer, or for a stretch where the appointments will not fit, and go back in later. Hair that has been looked after and stored properly can often go back in, which is worth asking about before you decide.
